A New Faire and some Openings

January 29, 2008 by The Crier · Leave a Comment

Greetings,
I represent a new faire, the Joplin Renaissance Festival, in Joplin, MO. It’s in a lovely park, Landreth Park and goes up April 26th and 27th. I portray Queen Elizabeth and also am the Entertainment Director (yes, I know that’s too much for one person!) As many people are hesitant to sign on with a new faire, I can assure that the owner is a magnificent promoter with years of management experience who has the entire entertainment budget already put aside in advance; impressive indeed. Here’s the web-site (still in progress!) http://www.joplinrenfestival.com/

We’re currently seeking someone experienced in Games management to help the owner establish a games program for the faire. The position doesn’t pay a salary but if the right person has some patron-worthy, portable games to bring to the faire and run them, that would be ideal.

We are also looking for a Children’s Realm manager to develop and administer the children’s area at this new faire. There are local Scouting groups available to help staff the area and the park already has a lovely children’s playground area that will be fenced off for the purpose of children’s activities. We already have booked several stage shows who will be doing some shows in that area, namely Lady Nancy’s Silly Songs of the Selkie and Lord Kerridwyn. We also have booked Brother Donald who will have his usual story-telling spot beneath one of the large trees.

For stage and street entertainment we have booked the Bedlam Bards (http://www.bedlambards.com/), the Limey Birds (http://www.limeybirds.com/main.html), Queen’s Gambit (http://www.queens-gambit.com/), the Musical Blades, the Lord Mayor’s Company, Byron T. Bear, Matthew the Magician, the Red Moon Tribe, Sonic Sidhe Tribe drum group, Twisted Blades, Howl-O, Seymoure Graves and others. As of now, the roster of paid entertainers and stage shows is completely filled.

We also have several reinactor groups and educational groups, including; the Royal Gauntlet Birds of Prey, Five Rings Fencing (http://www.fiveringsfencing.org/), the Bramble School of Defense (http://www.bbramble.com/), the Brotherhood of Steel. Our Weapons Master for the faire is Mark Wickersham; any and all sword play and fighting must be passed by him for safely, such events will then be passed by me as ED for entertainment value. I delegate!

We are thrilled to have the Yeoman Body Guard of the Yeoman Warders from KCRF (http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/yeomenRBG/?yguid=256855343) as our Royal Guard. We are also thrilled to have Mother Pockets Soup Kitchen providing food and mothering for the participants’ lunches.

This is the sister faire to White Hart Renaissance Festival (www.historic-arts.com)

Anyone interested in joining us should contact the owner, Bruce Morgan at abug.eater@yahoo.com as to the open positions and opportunities or me, rowangolightly@gmail.com regarding entertainment.

Or just come and see us in the village of Fareham, Hampshire in England on April 26 & 27th, 1575!

Huzzah!

Academics, students of theater, renaissance enthusiasts, and actors are invited to this interdisciplinary conference aimed at bringing together all those interested in learning about Renaissance era and the role of the re-enactor within the Renaissance setting. The weekend workshops will put aspiring actors in touch with the people ‘in the know’ who will provide” first-hand knowledge and an inside-the-character perspective on becoming a better renaissance performer.

This year will also feature sessions for event producers as well as entertainment and vendor coordinators, bringing a new level of communication and sharing the knowledge gained over the years of experience between the people who make it all happen. If you’re getting ready for your first time, or have produced multi-weekend events for decades, there’ll be something for everyone.

More Meeting & Greeting than ever before. There are some events you will never want to end. This is one of them. The Symposium will open Friday with an evening reception and mixer. Saturday, there will be a full schedule of classes followed by an evening dinner/banquet reception and a lively karaoke party. A packed program of activities and classes continues on Sunday.

There are always more things to learn. If you have a class/session idea that you don’t see listed, and would like to suggest it, or if you’d like to volunteer to teach or chair it, please drop us a note. We’re constantly looking for new ideas…  Who Attends the Symposium? Anyone who performs, sells, or produces Faires, as well as individuals who are interested in becoming involved for the first time. School of the Solidier Update

January 25, 2008 by The Crier · Leave a Comment

From Gordon Frye/Patrick Gaul:

This is just a quick update to keep you posted on activities taking place in preparation for this year’s “Actions of the Lowe Countries” presented by the School of the Renaissance Soldier. This event will be held at Gibson Ranch (http://renaissancesoldier.com/events/gibsonranch.php), in Sacramento California. The dates will be Friday April 4th thru Sunday April 6th.- Everything is a “go” for the much expanded Tavern Tent. We have a full-time Tavern Keeper, and are near completion on a wonderful new set of tables and a bar top. With all this new real estate, we are seeking volunteers willing to instruct in period gaming.

- We have most of the officers and other positions filled, with a super competent and enthusiastic group. We are, however, still seeking a Quarter Master.

- The drill officers have been working hard preparing new materials, and have updated the Rules of Engagement and put forth a new improved drill schedule.

- The Head Sutler has a new very large cauldron, and a new tripod.

- I have heard that many veterans will be retuning this season with new firearms! Love the smell of black powder in the morning!

- The new on-line registration page will be available very soon, sporting a new look and easier, faster registration. All veterans will be able to login and use the information that they provided last year, and then just choose the options that they wish for this year’s event. Or, for those that prefer, use our mail-in registration form at: http://renaissancesoldier.com/downloads/Event_Registration.pdf

For more information, the PDF flyer of the event is available at: http://renaissancesoldier.com/downloads/ALC_Flyer_2008.pdf

If you have not already, please consider joining the new “SRS Parley” discussion group by sending an email to: SRS-Parley-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

This will be the best way to get the latest news about the event, participate in polls, post your photos of last year’s event, share files and Internet links, or participate in discussion with other “Lowe Countries” enthusiasts.

Furhter information about on-line registration will be sent very soon!
